Often times, curiosity is indeed a wonderful thing. This review copy caught my eye purely out of curiosity. I’d seen raving reviews about this Victorian series and its daring female protagonist, and when I spotted this novella available on NetGalley, I didn't hesitate.
This installment is #5.6 in the series, but what amazed me was how easy it was to follow who’s who and what’s what. Ms. Raybourn has a true knack for keeping readers oriented without feeling lost, introducing characters in the most wonderfully unconventional ways. Meeting Nicholas Brisbane for the first time—naked in bed—was certainly memorable. A very fine specimen, too, I gathered!
So far, I’ve loved all the characters I’ve met — they are a fascinating set of people with sharp wit and strong personalities. Reading this series will never be boring, and I definitely need to set a date for a reading marathon soon.
