April 2013 marks TFG’s 3rd year anniversary. It was a month-long celebration which involves online and offline activities. A busy, yet very rewarding month. It is also worth mentioning that I moderated for the month’s F2F, and help prepare for the culmination of our anniversary celebration. And so, yes, my reading rut excuses seemed valid enough so as not to put the blame entirely on the heat alone. Hihihi
Among my three (3) reading requirements for April, I've only read Smaller and Smaller Circles by F.H. Batacan. And, Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell will have to spill through May. But I did finish some other books:
Among my three (3) reading requirements for April, I've only read Smaller and Smaller Circles by F.H. Batacan. And, Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell will have to spill through May. But I did finish some other books:
- The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes -4/5 stars – a very worthy buddy read.
- A Study in Emerald by Neil Gaiman -5/5 stars – listened to the audio version, read by the author himself, while reading the 9-page pdf file.
- My Imaginary Ex by Mina V. Esguerra -4/5 stars – a sweet reprieve from reading JS & MN.
- Smaller and Smaller Circles by F.H. Batacan -4/5 stars – a surprisingly quick read.
While April was a rewarding month, I cannot help but give out a contented sigh of relief, because now that it is over I can welcome May with some serious reading.
- The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Díaz – this requires some strategic maneuvers since it’s twice now that I have failed to accomplish this. I will read/listen to this one simultaneously with the rest of my list, that way it will be like getting to the finish line in baby steps. Hah!
- What the Darkness Brings (Sebastian St. Cyr #8) by C.S. Harris – I’ve wanted to dive into this since it came out. Excited much!
- The Testing by Joelle Charbonneau – an ARC I have to read in less than 30 days.
This may be a conservative list, but it will have to do, lest I bite more than I can chew. Besides, this way, it will be easier to add more books if need be.
Do visit Tina’s blog to meet the rest of the challengers.
Happy May reading, guys!
Another Mina Esguerra book! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd this post reminds me to read another Gaiman. The last one I read was Coraline and I loved it.
Hi Lynai. I owe Mina (Summit) some reviews too, I hope to accomplish that before the next ReaderCon. We have to support local writers as much as we can, di ba?
DeleteAnd Neil Gaiman, I am eager to read his new book -The Ocean at the End of the Lane. :)
I am suddenly panicking. I've bitten more than I can chew, hahaha. :D
ReplyDeleteEnjoy Junot Diaz! Oscar Wao is a fun and geeky novel.
No worries, dear. Monthly spill overs are always acceptable.
DeleteAnd with your braces gone, go ahead, have a big bite. hahahaha
Thank you! :)
Oh, I've always wanted to read The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao! And that cover is just love! I'll look for that edition!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Peter!
DeleteI'm really hoping to finish it this time.
Yay for Oscar Wao! Am reading that one this month, too. :)
ReplyDeleteThen, Yay for both of us.
DeleteSo far, I'm liking it.
Let me know if you like Oscar Wao, mommy. I've been eyeing his books ever since but I don't have the guts to read it. Sometimes, thin books are way dangerous than chunksters. :D
ReplyDeleteWill do, dear. But I can already assume that you'll like Oscar Wao. The language is pretty hip and the age bracket is a lot closer to yours.
